Urge

The Urge were formed in December 1978 when Dicky Evans said to his tech buddy Phil Roberts, "I'd love to be in a group". Phil replied by saying "I play the guitar". The Urge were born. After recruiting old school friends Anthony on rhythm guitar and Gagsy, who was trying to sell his drumkit, they started practicing Stranglers, Rods and Beatles numbers, mixed in with a few of their own self-penned songs, such as "Swansea Mafia" and "Fun in Stalingrad" and playing their first gig at the Langrove in Gower a few months later(albeit with three different drummers while gagsy was at the bar!). Other gigs followed, including the SSA bar and Hendrefoilan Student Village (which was marred by fighting and resulted in a heavy-handed visit by the local constabulary)

Then came the changes: The name was changed to the Dodo's after the asthma tablets (containing ephidrine). Anthony was switched to bass and Evans took on the singing. This was their best period when they packed the Coach house regularly and the Langland Bay Hotel on several occasions, They also recording two sessions for Swansea Sound and prepared to release a single (which sadly never materialised)
